Yeah, Nukes!
Steven DenBeste wonders about the origin of the mushroom cloud picture used for this webpage.
A commenter says that it's a French nuclear test, so I looked for more info in the right place, and found this article about French nuclear tests. There is a small picture called Mururoa II similar to the one in the Nuke It From Orbit page: it apparently refers to the first test at Mururoa (2 July 1966), a barge-detonated 30 kt fission bomb. There is another picture of the mushroom cloud at a later stage of development - it doesn't look as cool.
The authors of the webpage apparently took a high-resolution pic of the event and edited it for higher impact and darker, somewhat more Aliens-like, chromatic effect.
